Details: Zelenskyy stressed that Russia sees any easing of pressure as a green light to continue the war.
Quote: "Today, Russia expressed its thanks for the lifting of sanctions on diesel exports by dropping five glide bombs on residential buildings in Zaporizhzhia. As of now, sadly, twelve people have been confirmed killed, including three children.
Last night confirmed once again that in Russia, they take any easing of pressure to mean they can keep fighting, to mean they can keep dropping bombs on cities. Different signals are needed. Russia must understand that it needs to stop the war, and for that to happen, Russia must feel its losses."
Details: Zelenskyy said pressure on Russia must be maintained, adding that Ukraine's long-range strikes are currently helping to keep it up.
Background:
- US President Donald Trump said the previous day that he had spoken with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and reached an agreement with him on supplies of Russian diesel fuel to the US and global markets.
- Axios reported that Trump decided to strike a deal with Russia on diesel fuel after Zelenskyy ignored half a dozen US requests to halt attacks on Russian oil refineries.
- Zelenskyy previously said the US used the meeting with Ukrainian negotiators in Miami as cover for reaching agreements with Russia on diesel fuel.
