Quote: "I do not think he [President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy] has earned a respite. I do not think that we will once again fall for assurances and promises."
Details: This was Lavrov's response when asked about the situation surrounding the energy truce between Russia and Ukraine announced by US President Donald Trump.
Meanwhile, according to the Russian foreign minister's interpretation, it is supposedly Zelenskyy who, "pumped up with European weapons, is waging a terrorist war against the Russian people".
Background:
- The Kremlin also rejected the idea of a 60-day ceasefire proposed by Zelenskyy for holding elections in Ukraine if the American leader insists on it.
- Dmitry Peskov, press secretary for the Russian leader, claimed that if Ukraine wants to hold elections, Vladimir Putin is ready to halt strikes only on election day.
