Details: Kallas said she believes Russia's oil revenues must be cut off, and that is Ukraine's objective in carrying out strikes on Russian oil refineries.

Quote: "The majority of Russia's funding for the war comes from oil revenues. So clearly Ukraine wants this war to stop, and that's why cutting off the funding for the war is the way to do it."

Details: Kallas added that pressure on Moscow should be intensified, expressing disagreement with those who are putting pressure on Kyiv.

Quote: "We see that we should squeeze Russia, not Ukraine, to surrender, to end this war. And there we have been very committed."

Background:

  • The Washington Post recently reported on an alleged US "peace plan" for Ukraine that would envisage increasing pressure on Ukraine, which has indeed been happening of late.
  • In particular, there have been problems with Starlink in Ukraine in recent days.
  • On 14 October, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ordered the resumption of strikes on Russian oil refineries despite Trump's request to the contrary.
