Details: Kulbergs stressed the need to continue supporting Ukraine and strengthen sanctions against Russia.
He also urged people to focus less on their own comfort, noting that supporting Ukraine comes at a cost.
In particular, the Latvian prime minister suggested that every European drink one fewer beer a year and donate the money saved to Ukraine.
Quote from Kulbergs: "It is one bear less for one European a year. We can afford that. But Ukraine needs it now. That one bear is just a cost, there [in Ukraine], it's a cost of life. We drink less – there, lives are saved."
Background:
- In early October, it emerged that, in response to Ukraine's request for support, the Latvian government had approved the provision of humanitarian aid to Ukraine from the country's healthcare sector, including medical equipment for patient care and emergency treatment, as well as ambulances.
- In addition, Latvia's Economy Ministry will use remaining funds to purchase another 12 diesel generators, on top of its earlier decision to procure diesel generators for Chernihiv Oblast.
