Ukrainian forces have struck Russian Nebo-U radar worth about US$100m, General Staff says
-
Ukraine's defence forces struck a Russian 55Zh6U Nebo-U radar near the settlement of Magri in Russia's Krasnodar Krai on the night of 15-16 October.
Source: General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Details: A fire broke out near the radar as a result of the strike, the General Staff reported.
Quote: "The Nebo-U is a long-range, three-coordinate radar designed to detect and track aerial assets, including aircraft, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles. Striking such systems reduces the enemy's ability to monitor airspace and detect aerial assets in time. The estimated cost of the radar station is about US$100 million."
Background:
- In August, drone operators from the 429th Separate Unmanned Systems Brigade (known as Achilles) struck a Russian Nebo-U radar station at the Millerovo airfield in Rostov Oblast.
- The brigade's long-range strike unit struck the target 170 km from the line of contact. The radar was hit using a Ukrainian RAM-2X loitering munition.
