Italy calls US weakening of Ukraine a "major mistake", says Putin cannot be stopped this way
Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto has said that the US decision to restrict Ukraine's access to satellite systems and intelligence used to defend itself against Russian attacks is a "complete mistake, a major mistake".

Details: Crosetto warned that any such move by US President Donald Trump's administration would "make absolutely no sense" and could lead to Russia's full-scale invasion being prolonged rather than help establish peace.
Quote: "Peace will come when Putin is convinced there is a stalemate, that he cannot advance any further. If [Putin] sees weakness on the Ukrainian side – and if the US deprives Ukraine of resources, that creates weakness – then he will believe he can win. So he will continue the war. I think that is completely wrong."
Details: He stated that Italy's military support for Ukraine would continue "for as long as this government is in place", although he warned that securing parliamentary approval for further deliveries would become more difficult as elections approach.
Crosetto's comments come amid increasingly sharp criticism of the US from Italy.
Background:
- This week, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called Trump's deal to buy diesel fuel from Russia "a choice that I consider very risky".
- She also said that she does not miss seeing Russian tanks in European countries.
