Quote: "The ceasefire, which was in effect from 27 October to 1 November, has ended.
This was an important stage in our joint humanitarian work with Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova, coordinated by US First Lady Melania Trump.
Both sides honoured their commitments during this period. This made it possible to deliver humanitarian aid to Oleshky and help civilians who wanted to leave the city safely."
Details: Lubinets added that he and Lantratova are now exploring "the possibility of carrying out similar humanitarian efforts".
"It is important to preserve this mechanism of cooperation so that we can continue helping people and saving lives," he added.
Background:
- The White House announced that US First Lady Melania Trump had secured a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky in Kherson Oblast, where a humanitarian disaster is currently unfolding.
- Lubinets announced that a ceasefire would come into effect at 03:00 on 27 October in the Oleshky area. Russia's Defence Ministry confirmed this. The ceasefire was due to continue until 22:59 on 1 November.
- Under the agreement between the Russian and Ukrainian sides, the evacuation route for Oleshky residents ran through Russia and Belarus to Ukraine. Lubinets' office explained why the evacuation would take place along this route. Some people evacuated to Ukraine, while others chose to go to Russian-controlled territory.
- On 31 October, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the humanitarian operation in Oleshky had been successfully completed. All Ukrainian citizens evacuated crossed the state border in Chernihiv Oblast.
- Lubinets said that the oldest person evacuated from occupied Oleshky is 94 and the youngest is just over a year old. People also brought their pets with them.
