Trump calls law banning Russian fuel imports "pretty bad"

US President Donald Trump has said a Joe Biden-era law banning the import of Russian fuel into the United States is "pretty bad".

Details: At a White House press briefing, a journalist asked Trump about a tanker carrying Russian diesel fuel bound for the US, reminding him about the ban on Russian oil product imports imposed in 2022.
Trump initially asked whether the journalist was referring to the Jones Act. The reporter clarified that he meant a different law passed by Congress and signed by Joe Biden.
Trump then criticised the legislation.
Quote: "Oh, by Biden? That probably makes it a pretty bad law. I'll take a look at it, sure."
Background:
- On the evening of 9 October, Trump said he had spoken by phone with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin and reached an agreement with him on the supply of millions of tonnes of Russian diesel to US and global markets.
- This move drew sharp criticism from Ukraine, Washington's European allies and critics in the US, as did Trump's call for a new Ukrainian president to replace Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
