Shkiriak: Azov and Donbas Regiments to Return to Frontline

Wednesday, 22 June 2016, 13:56

Adviser to the Minister of the Interior Zorian Shkiriak claims that return of National Guard of Ukraine special units to the frontline is a justified option, as the official Facebook page [ed.: the text of this Facebook post is in the Ukrainian language] of the Ministry of Interior informed on Wednesday, June 22.

"First of all, it concerns the rapid deployment brigade of the National Guard along with Azov and Donbas special regiments. They will get back to the frontline to rebuff the enemy," Shkiriak highlighted.

He went on that these units had repeatedly proven their combat effectiveness at the onset of Russian aggression.

During the latest escalation of the conflict, the Armed Forces of Ukraine suffer from day-to-day shelling by militants, as their subversive groups and snipers gain traction.

"Therefore, it is justifiable to have the volunteer troops return to the frontline. They used to strike awe into the separatists and got professional military training later on," the adviser stressed.

The volunteer battalions have been withdrawn from the defense frontline in the war zone since summer 2015. Only Armed Forces of Ukraine units remain there.
