Thursday, 21 July 2016, 19:58

CCTV footage from the night of July 19 to 20 shows the moment of planting the explosive device that killed Pavel Sheremet, DT.UA reports.  Sheremet, a journalist of Ukrayinska Pravda was killed on the morning of July 20, after a car he was driving which was owned by the publication’s Founding Editor Olena Prytula exploded at the crossing of Ivan Franko and Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Streets in Kyiv.

After examining the body of the victim and the frame of the vehicle the investigators of the assassination of Pavel Sheremet are coming to the preliminary conclusion that driver of the car was the only target of the perpetrator(s). This was confirmed to DT.UA [Ed.: online version of respected Dzerkalo Tyzhnia of the 1990s] by a source in Ukrainian law enforcement.

"The calculation was precise and professional. There was enough explosive to kill only the driver. If the shock wave of the explosion went down, then it would have been substantially doused and absorbed by the ground, yet the shock wave went up and portside. They were targeting the driver," — said the source.

"If there were passengers inside, they might have survived the explosion. The calculation was to kill the driver, not to destroy the car" — he added.

According to the source, forensic experts have already finalized examining the body of the journalist and concluded that the death was caused by fatal injuries and rapid bleeding.

"The death was caused by rapid and extensive bleeding during the first 1—2 minutes after the explosion and by shell shock. The victim had no chances," — concluded the source.

The investigators are also examining CCTV footage of the blast site. Police and the special investigatory group are now considering six possible lines of enquiry in this assassination, including a plot to kill Olena Prytula.
