Sytnyk Defends NABU Employee Over Alleged Moonlighting

Monday, 15 August 2016, 14:51

National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) Chief Artem Sytnyk claimed during a press-conference on Monday that the SBU proceeding against an NABU employee with regard to alleged unlawful moonlighting was nonsense.

According to him, this employee was a trainer at three events, which is permitted by law.

"She is the deputy head of the administrative unit. She is not a legal enforcement officer. The SBU was fully aware about it. Their speculations about her receiving money for providing training – not for business or having another job – are senseless. Moreover, she declared this income. Being a trainer is not an offense for a public servant," Sytnyk explained.

He considers this as the SBU’s attempt to put pressure on NABU. "I wonder whether the entire anti-corruption department of the SBU has nothing to do but to send four officers to our employee’s home to give her the charge. Next time, they would send Alfa special force or what? I can’t help but flaring up on this issue," he added.

On Monday, August 15, the SBU claimed to have uncovered corruption at NABU, as one of its employees worked as a ‘trainer’ at events of a European foundation.
