Special unit of International Legion created in Ukraine

A special unit of the International Legion has been established under the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence's Chief Directorate of Intelligence.

Details: The special unit of the International Legion is already executing military tasks.

According to Ukraine's intelligence agency: "Ukraine continues to form the International Legion of Ukraine's Defence. As of today, volunteers and veterans from 52 countries have expressed interest in joining the legion. Their number already exceeds 20,000 people.

"For the most part, these are experienced fighters who have taken part in many peacemaking campaigns in all corners of the world".

Background: The first volunteers from the UK ready to fight for Ukraine against the Russian army are already arriving in Ukraine.

On 27 February, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the formation of a new subunit, the International Legion of Ukraine's territorial defence, which will be drawn from foreigners prepared to fight Russian occupying forces alongside Ukrainian troops.
