Details: At about 1 pm, protesters in the Russian-occupied city were chanting in unison: "Kherson is Ukraine!", "The only one, united Ukraine!"

Kherson residents came with the Ukrainian national flags and hand-made posters.

They also chanted: "Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!", "There are a lot of us - we cannot be defeated!", "Glory to the soldiers of the Armed Forces!", "Mykolaiv! We are with you!" and other patriotic slogans.

There was no organiser of the rally, people organised it themselves. Participants in the event say that they came to demonstrate that they do not want Russian power in the Kherson region, they do not want any "People's Republic of Kherson".

As participants in the event told journalists, Kherson residents held a rally, and then the Russian military arrived at the scene with equipment to disperse them.

"We managed to hold a rally. Now Russian equipment has arrived," said one of the participants of the event.

Earlier, local residents had traditionally gathered for protests at the Svobody Square ("Freedom Square") - near the building of the regional state administration and regional council. This square and the building are currently controlled by Russian armed forces, who use weapons against protesters and abduct people.

Background: On April 3, armed Russian occupiers used weapons against peaceful protesters in Kakhovka, Kherson region.

In the Kherson region, residents regularly hold peaceful protests against the Russian occupying forces. The Russian military uses force and weapons against people, there are wounded and detained. Russian invaders also abduct residents of the region.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy gave Kherson the honorary title of "Hero City" after the start of Russia's war against Ukraine and the Kherson’s resistance against Russian aggression.
