Details: Zelenskyy announced that more than 100 civilians, who have been successfully transported from Mariupol on Sunday, should arrive in Zaporizhzhya on Monday morning.

"Taking into consideration all the difficulties of the process, the first evacuees will arrive in Zaporizhzhia tomorrow morning. God willing, this will not fail. Our team will meet them there", the President said.

Zelenskyy stressed that every single day the authorities have been trying to find a solution to rescue Ukrainians from Mariupol.

"Today, for the first time during the war, this vital humanitarian corridor started to work. For the first time, a ceasefire held for two days in this area, and we have already managed to evacuate more than 100 civilians - primarily women and children who had sought refuge in Azovstal to escape from the hostilities", the President said.

Earlier: At noon on 1 May, international journalists began reporting that evacuation buses with 50 civilians had left Mariupol and transported people to the territory controlled by the forces of the unrecognised "DPR" [Donetsk People’s Republic].

Later, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the evacuation of civilians from the bunkers of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol had begun with the help of the United Nations. "The first group of approximately 100 people is already heading to [Ukrainian-]controlled territory", Zelenskyy said.
