Influential states are involved in rescuing Ukrainian military personnel from the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol.

Details: Zelenskyy noted that the Ukrainian team had organised the rescue of "more than 40 civilians" from the Azovstal steelworks during the course of the day.

Background: Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk said that 50 women, children and elderly people had been evacuated from Azovstal in Mariupol on Friday 6 May.

Hundreds of civilians have recently been evacuated from Azovstal, but for the military personnel, including the wounded soldiers, evacuation remains impossible .

On 6 May, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned once again that further talks with Russia will be impossible if Russian invaders kill Ukrainian civilians and military personnel at the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol.
