The damages caused by the Russians to the Ukrainian medical system - Ministry of Health of Ukraine

Since the beginning of the war, 817 medical facilities have been damaged by shelling by the Russian forces; 122 can’t be restored.

This was reported by Viktor Liashko, the Minister of Health of Ukraine, at a briefing on 6 July.

"35,808,000 will be needed to restore damaged facilities to the condition they were in before the war. 15,328,000 will be needed to build new hospitals on the site of destroyed ones," the minister said.

During the war, 14 medical staff members of civilian hospitals were killed, and another 48 were wounded.

Moreover, the occupiers destroyed 85 "ambulance" vehicles and seized another 105, taking them to an unknown destination.

The buildings of 481 pharmacies were damaged by shelling, and 43 pharmacies were completely destroyed.

There are 469 health care facilities currently in occupied territory.

"At the same time, the health care system continues to work in Ukraine. In particular, since the beginning of the war, more than 50 billion hryvnias [approximately USD 1.7 billion] have been transferred under the medical guarantee programme in order to make all payments and pay increased salaries to doctors," the minister notes.

In an interview with Ukrainska Pravda.Zhyttia in June, Viktor Liashko spoke about 672 damaged medical facilities, the restoration of which will require 34.4 billion hryvnias [USD 1.1 billion].
