Quote: "[Ukraine’s] defence forces, under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, are doing everything possible to liberate Ukrainian land from Russian occupation and stop the aggressor. We are led by a unity of command principle and do not let divisions happen within the military.

Any political speculations concerning certain actions on one or other front, and obviously provocative actions intended to involve the highest state military and political leadership, are unacceptable.

And it is clear that certain bloggers definitely should not talk about non-existent conflicts, as doing so affects our capacity and consolidation.

Once again: do not talk about things that do not exist and that lead to a public misunderstanding."

Details: Previously, a journalist named Yurii Butusov claimed that "President Zelenskyy provoked a conflict within the military leadership by celebrating the liberation of Izium [a town in Kharkiv Oblast - ed.] with General Syrskyi [Commander of the Ground Forces of Ukraine - ed.], and made a point of not inviting or mentioning Valerii Zaluzhnyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces."

Quote from Butusov: "Over the past few months, the President’s Office has been provoking a superficial conflict between Zaluzhnyi and Syrskyi by opposing the two leaders. This was demonstrated in Izium. In this way, political intrigue shows Zaluzhnyi that he is about to be replaced. It is hard to understand why this has to be done during intense combat actions, because Zaluzhnyi’s authority allows the President to act and to rely on the army."

Background:

  • On 14 September, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in the liberated city of Izium in Kharkiv Oblast, where he took photos with Ukrainian soldiers.
