Training in treatment of radiation-affected people begins in Zaporizhzhia; special medical unit deployed

Oleksandr Starukh, the head of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast Military Administration, said that due to the actions of the Russian troops, training on the treatment of radiation-affected people has been launched in the region, and a special medical unit has already been deployed.

Quote from Starukh: "A series of exercises were launched in order to test the capabilities of medical services. Today, a converted unit with thirty beds for the treatment of patients affected by radiation was deployed at the base of one of the medical institutions. If necessary, we have the capacity to deploy more bed space for patients."

Details:

According to Starukh, the medical unit was created in response to radiation risks due to the actions of the Russian Forces and can be used in the first instance.

He added that international partners help to improve the oblast’s medical base.

In August, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that the situation around the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant had become extremely dangerous.

After visiting the Zaporizhzhia NPP, Raphael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said that the physical integrity of the occupied Nuclear Power Plant had been violated several times.
