OLEKSII PAVLYSH – MONDAY, 17 OCTOBER 2022, 13:08

On early 17 October, Russians launched missile attacks on the energy infrastructure in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Sumy Oblast and the city of Kyiv. Both household consumers and industrial enterprises have been powered down once again.

"The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has been powered down again and is now working on diesel generators. The reason is that the substation, which powered the only line connecting the ZNPP with the Ukrainian energetic system, has been damaged.

Simply damaging the line in order to power down the nuclear power plant was not enough for the occupiers. Now they are testing our ability to quickly restore electric substations", the Minister explained.

"Such nuclear blackmail by the terrorist state cannot be ignored by the international community! Ukraine needs the sky above its power facilities to be closed!", Halushchenko stressed.

He also called upon all Ukrainians to reduce electricity consumption during the day, especially during the evening peak hours, from 17:00 to 23:00.

"It will help us restore and support the stability of the power system, which Russians are trying so hard to destroy", he explained.

Background:

Energy infrastructure facilities in central and northern oblasts of Ukraine were damaged during morning attacks. Ukrenergo, the national energy company, does not rule out the possibility of introducing rolling emergency shutdowns.
