Zelenskyy, in his address to G7, suggests Russia should begin withdrawing its troops at Christmas

To show they are capable of abandoning their aggression, Russia could begin to withdraw its troops from the territory of Ukraine.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this statement in his address to G7 countries on Monday, according to European Pravda

"We offer Russia an opportunity to make a real, meaningful step towards diplomatic settlement [of this conflict - ed.], which is so often discussed in Moscow. The holidays are ahead, celebrated by billions of people around the world: Christmas of the Gregorian calendar, New Year, Christmas of the Julian calendar. This is the time when normal people think about peace, not about aggression. I offer Russia the opportunity to at least try to demonstrate that they can abandon the way of aggression. It would be a right step to start withdrawing troops from internationally recognised borders of Ukraine this Christmas", said Zelenskyy.

He added that if Russia carries out a withdrawal of troops from Ukraine, this will guarantee a halt to hostilities.

"I hope that you will hear our message. Because this is of global interest. And this is a part of our peace formula. The occupier has to go. And this will happen inevitably. And I don’t see the reason why Russia wouldn't do it now, on Christmas", stated the President.

He also proposed a special summit, the Global Peace Formula Summit, "to determine how and when we can implement the main points of the Ukrainian peace formula."

In a virtual meeting that Zelenskyy participated in, the leaders of G7 countries pledged to continue their support for Ukraine, financial support in particular, in its full-scale war with Russia.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the G7 countries agreed to create a platform of coordination of financial aid to Ukraine and promised to provide more anti-aircraft defence systems.
