Russians launch 74 missiles on Friday hitting 5 oblasts – General Staff

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has clarified the information about a missile attack on Friday, 16 December; the Russian occupiers used 74 missiles, and Ukrainian Air Defence units shot down 60 of them.

Quote: "The enemy launched a large-scale missile attack on the civilian infrastructure of our state this morning. As per the clarified data, the Russian occupiers used 70 cruise missiles and 4 guided air-launched missiles. Sixty cruise missiles were shot down by our air defence forces [earlier, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reported that the Russians launched 76 missiles, including 72 cruise ones, and that 60 of them were shot down – ed.].

As a result of the strikes, several energy infrastructure facilities and residential buildings in Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia oblasts were hit."

Details: There were no significant changes on the Volyn and Polissia fronts. There is no evidence that Russia is forming additional units to launch a new offensive. Some units of the Armed Forces of the Republic Belarus and the Russian Federation keep being deployed in the districts close to the border with Ukraine.

On the Slobozhanshchyna and Sivershchyna fronts, Russian forces struck the settlements of Zapsillia and Popivka in Sumy Oblast; Starytsia, Ambarne, Vilhuvatka, Dvorichna and Krasne in Kharkiv Oblast from mortars and artillery.

On the Kupiansk front, Russian forces fired at the settlements of Synkivka, Orlianka, Tabaivka, Berestove and Vyshneve in Kharkiv Oblast, as well as Stelmakhivka and Volodymyrivka in Luhansk Oblast using tanks, mortars, tubed and rocket artillery.

On the Lyman front, the Russian army targeted the positions of Ukrainian forces from tanks and artillery of various calibres near Makiivka, Ploshchanka, Chervonopopivka, Dibrova and Hirske in Luhansk Oblast.

On the Bakhmut and Avdiivka fronts, the Russians keep conducting assault actions, trying to find weaknesses in Ukrainian forces’ defence line in order to break through it. They hit the areas of more than 20 settlements, including Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, Bilohorivka, Vesele, Soledar, Bakhmutske, Bakhmut, Opytne, Chasiv Yar, Druzhba, Zalizne, Marinka and Pervomaiske in Donetsk Oblast.

On the Novopavlivka front, the outskirts of Bohoiavlenka, Neskuchne, Prechystivka and Vuhledar in Donetsk Oblast came under Russian fire.

On the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson fronts, Russian troops continue attacking the positions of Ukrainian forces and civilian infrastructure along the right (west) bank of the Dnipro River. More than 30 settlements were hit. In particular, the Russians have targeted the city of Nikopol in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast; Plavni, Huliaipole, Dorozhnianka and Olhivske in Zaporizhzhia Oblast; Chornobaivka, Antonivka, Kherson, Mykilske, Tokarivka and Mylove in Kherson Oblast.

Units of Ukraine’s Rocket Forces and Artillery hit three clusters of Russian military personnel, a command post and an ammunition storage point of the occupiers over the current day.
