Evacuation in darkness: how police officers use thermal imager to rescue wounded in Donetsk Oblast

Saturday, 3 December 2022, 10:05

DIANA KRECHETOVA – SATURDAY, 3 DECEMBER

A police crew, nicknamed White Angels, searches and evacuates wounded people in the dark from the most dangerous settlements of Donetsk Oblast every day.

They do this using a night vision device to remain invisible to the enemy, reports the National Police of Ukraine.

When searching for people in dark houses, White Angels use a thermal imager. This was the case in the settlements of Marinka hromada [an administrative unit, which usually consists of a town and adjacent villages], which the Russian occupiers shell every day.

Once, the police crew came to help an elderly man who was wounded by Russians in his own yard. Having arrived at the home of the victim, the law enforcement officers administered the first aid and evacuated him to the hospital.

The White Angels help the sick citizens living in towns and villages near the front line. Ambulance workers cannot get there because of constant shelling, and the people there need help almost the most.

For example, recently, the "white angels" took an elderly man with reduced mobility and a bleeding woman to the hospital. The condition of the woman turned out to be critical due to a large loss of blood.

"Wasting no time, police officers took her to a medical facility, where doctors provided the necessary assistance," the National Police said.

At the same time, law enforcement officers add that, despite the fact that "white angels" work in the hottest spots and save lives, citizens should evacuate from the zone of active hostilities, because this is the only way to save life.

In Ukraine, the responsibility of educators for refusing to evacuate foster children from hot spots, specifically in Donetsk Oblast, has been strengthened.
