Background:

  • Recently, Lieutenant General and the Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Serhii Naiev, said that the accumulation of the Russian-Belorusian combined force continued on the territory of Belarus, so the defenders were preparing for a due response to this.
  • Self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko blamed Ukraine and NATO for a growing number of provocations near the Belarusian-Ukrainian border and said that Ukraine was trying to drag NATO forces into the war.
  • According to analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Alexander Lukashenko made statements about the threat from NATO to emphasise the need to protect Belarus and avoid getting involved in the war in Ukraine.
