Zelenskyy writes to heads of international sports organisations about IOC and Russians

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has written to the presidents of the world's leading sports federations, urging them to make up their minds about the International Olympic Committee's decision to reinstate Russian athletes in international competitions.

Quote from Zelenskyy: "Today, I continued our marathon of honesty, which should bring international sports institutions back to true Olympic principles.

I have sent a letter to the presidents of leading international sports federations. The call is simple and fair: to make up their minds about the decision of the International Olympic Committee, which, unfortunately, wants to open up the sport to the propaganda influence of a terrorist state.

If Russian athletes appear at international competitions, it will only be a matter of time before they begin to justify Russia's aggression and use the symbols of terror. It is also only a matter of time before the Kremlin begins to use the International Olympic Committee's existing unprincipled ‘flexibility’ to claim that the world agrees to make concessions to the aggressor."

Background: On 27 January, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the beginning of a Marathon of Honesty, which will be aimed at cleansing hypocrisy from the international Olympic leadership and preventing any attempts to bring representatives of Russia back into world sport.

Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, said that he wants to "explore the possibility" of allowing athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in international sports, even though this could lead to a boycott of the competition by Ukraine.
