Mette Frederiksen, the Prime Minister of Denmark, has said that at the meeting with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, they also discussed the question of tanks for Ukraine, but she did not reveal whether Denmark is ready to consider this request.

Details: "Since the beginning of this war, we have emphasised that we will support Ukraine as necessary. And, I think, in many ways, we have proven that we are a true friend of Ukraine. Of course, today we were talking about tanks. We have just handed over our artillery systems [most likely, the recently announced CAESAR self-propelled howitzers – ed.]. But tanks are also needed," said Mette Frederiksen.

Denmark has 44 Leopard 2 tanks, which are its most modern vehicles in service. Some of them are now in the Baltic States together with the NATO contingent.

Last week, the Danish Defence Minister, commenting on this issue, explained that Denmark is not yet ready to help Ukraine with tanks, since there’s not that many in the country, and they are needed as an element of deterrence.

Background: On the afternoon of 30 January, it became known that Mette Frederiksen was visiting Mykolaiv and had met with Volodymyr Zelenskyy there. Defence and Foreign Ministers also came with her. Later, Danish mass media reported that after Mykolaiv, the government delegation also visited Odesa.
