Josep Borrell, the European Union High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, has stated that sending fighter jets to Ukraine is not currently on the European agenda, suggesting that this issue causes disagreements among the 27 member states.

During the meeting, Borrell insisted that the supply of this type of weapon is a "very controversial" issue among EU member states.

These statements came after France declared its readiness to provide combat aircraft to Kyiv, unlike other allies such as the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom, which do not discuss such steps.

"My job is to try to reach a consensus, and one of the best ways is not to take positions that could jeopardise it," the high representative stressed, saying that now the 27 member states should focus on keeping their word and sending the tanks they promised Ukraine.

Regarding the situation with the war in Ukraine, Borrell noted that Russia threatens an attack from the north, he does not rule out that it will be from the territory of Belarus, with the help of which it will disperse Ukrainian troops at the contact line. "I don't think it will happen, but you never know," he said, warning that if Moscow launches a new offensive on any contact line, it will happen before Western tanks fall into the hands of the Ukrainian army.

As reported, on Monday, the President of the United States Joe Biden said that the United States doesn't plan to send  F-16 fighters to Ukraine. The White House after that, said that the United States is already providing significant military assistance to Ukraine and is focused on the needs of Kyiv and the situation on the battlefield.
