Zelenskyy honours memory of victims in Türkiye: We share your pain

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the Embassy of Türkiye in Ukraine and honoured the memory of those who died as a result of the devastating earthquake.

Details: Zelenskyy made an entry in the book of mourning and laid flowers on the territory of the embassy.

"Please accept most sincere condolences from me personally and on behalf of the people of Ukraine. The awful tragedy that took so many lives in one moment caused deep pain in our hearts. We share the pain of the people of Türkiye and help in this difficult time. Eternal memory to the deceased.  We wish those who suffered a quick recovery," the president said.

He also talked with the Ambassador of Türkiye to Ukraine, Yağmur Ahmet Güldere.

Background:

  • In the early morning of 6 February, several powerful earthquakes shook the southeast of Türkiye, the magnitude of the main one was 7.7 points. In the afternoon, the quakes repeated, causing new destruction. The earthquakes also caused serious damage in Syria.
  • As of the morning of 11 February, the confirmed death toll from the earthquake in Türkiye exceeded 20,600, bringing the number of earthquake victims to 24,000, including those killed in Syria.
