After meeting with his German colleague, Ukraine's Minister of Defence explains how Ukraine will receive Leopard 1

Oleksii Reznikov, the Minister of Defence of Ukraine, told the details of the meeting in Kyiv with his German counterpart Boris Pistorius, in particular regarding the supply of tanks, and promised "a lot of positive news."

Quote from Reznikov: "The German government has already decided to supply Ukraine with Leopard 1 tanks. There will be 20-25 of these tanks by the summer, about 80 by the end of the year, and more than 100 Leopard 1 tanks by 2024. This is [enough to equip] at least three battalions, including materials, which will need to be purchased, spare parts, ammunition and training.

And, of course, we do not forget about the delivery of 14 Leopard 2 A6 battle tanks to Ukraine," Oleksii Reznikov noted.

Details: Reznikov also reported that the ministers had sent Ukrainian military personnel on a business trip to master the Leopard 2 tanks, and that Boris Pistorius was impressed by the pace of Ukrainians mastering the weapons.

In addition, they discussed the possibilities of speeding up the production of ammunition for the needs of Ukraine, primarily missiles for air defence. They also talked about the prospects of cooperation after the victory of Ukraine.

"There is no doubt that Germany will stand by Ukraine in the future," Oleksii Reznikov emphasized.

Background: On the evening of February 7, it became known that the Minister of Defence of Germany Boris Pistorius was in Kyiv; he brought the symbolic "Leopard 2", a toy tank.

Last week, the German government granted a licence to export Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine.
