According to the unofficial information of the Danish DR, it is also about the formerly Danish Leopards, which were decommissioned in 2010 and sold back to the German manufacturer, where they remained in warehouses. Now Denmark will help modernise them in order to transfer them to Ukraine.

Update: A joint statement of the three countries also appeared. "In the following months, Ukraine will receive at least a hundred Leopard 1A5s, including the necessary logistical support and training. Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands are providing modernised tanks from industrial warehouses, the first ones will be provided in a few months... The initiative includes training on the Leopard-1A5, as well as the provision of spare parts and ammunition," the communiqué states.

The countries add that the initiative is open to other interested allies and that Belgium has already expressed interest in it, too.

Background: The Federal Security Council of Germany approved the supply of 178 Leopard 1 tanks from the country's industrial stocks to Ukraine.

Oleksii Reznikov, the Minister of Defence of Ukraine, after meeting with his German counterpart in Kyiv, announced that Ukraine should receive 80 Leopard 1 tanks by the end of the year, and the first two dozen should arrive "by the summer."
