Details: Fedir Shandor's name became known because he volunteered for the Ukrainian army after Russia attacked Ukraine last February and gave lectures to his students from the trenches in between battles.

According to HVG's diplomatic sources, Shandor's candidacy is being discussed with Ukrainian partners, but no final decision has been made.

According to some information obtained by European Pravda, Ukraine has submitted a request for an agrément [agreement by a state to receive members of a diplomatic mission from a foreign country – ed.].

The HVG also cites the head of the Ukrainian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Maria Mezentseva, who, without giving a specific name, said that Kyiv authorities would like to send a new ambassador to Hungary who has Hungarian roots and a degree in social sciences. According to her, they are not looking for a diplomat in the first place, but a person who has good linguistic and cultural ties with the country, has good professional training and is able to conduct serious negotiations.

Until now, Shandor has been actively trying to do something for Ukrainian-Hungarian relations, sometimes writing about Ukrainian-Hungarian friendship, but he has also played a key role in the fundraising, which now amounts to several tens of millions of forints, started by Hungarian civilians for, among other things, soldiers of Hungarian origin.

Recently, he handed over to the Hungarian Consul in Uzhhorod a Hungarian flag signed by the military, a symbol of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, when Hungarians rebelled against Russian occupation and used the Hungarian flag with the communist emblem cut out.

Last July, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Liudmyla Nepop from her post as Ukraine's ambassador to Hungary.
