Quote: "Of course, the issue of Ukraine's accession to the EU is a matter of historical importance not only for Ukraine, but also for the European Union. Therefore, around historical decisions, such as the opening of accession negotiations, there will be a lot of nervousness, speculation, attempts to play up this issue to resolve some separate issues," he warned.

At the same time, Kuleba said that the Ukrainian authorities are in daily contact with colleagues in EU member states in order to "proceed in this way and open membership negotiations".

"I am in constant communication with the ministers of each EU member state so that we can go this way as smoothly as possible, as my father likes to say, ‘like a duck on water’," he concluded.

Earlier, Ihor Zhovkva, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine said that the negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union will begin in the first half of 2024, when Belgium holds the EU Council presidency.

On 3 October, Politico reported that EU leaders were preparing to give their political consent to what is expected to be a positive decision by the European Commission on Ukraine’s readiness to start accession talks in December.
