Details: Stefanchuk said the Verkhovna Rada and the European Parliament are conducting talks on strengthening cooperation even before Ukraine becomes an EU member.

The issues discussed at the meeting included participation by Ukrainian parliamentarians in the work of specialised parliamentary committees in Strasbourg and attendance at its plenary sessions as observers.

"We talked about some very important issues concerning the reciprocal opening of offices. There are plans to open a European Parliament office in Kyiv, and here, in the European Parliament, we plan to set up an office of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. This is an exclusive approach specifically for Ukraine," Stefanchuk emphasised.

He added that unifying the work of the administrative offices of the Verkhovna Rada and the European Parliament is another step in the same direction.

"Compliance with the criteria of democratisation and parliamentarism is very important for us, as we are integrating into Europe and want to be fully compatible," Stefanchuk concluded.

Background: The Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament previously confirmed its intention to open a permanent representation in Ukraine to promote Ukraine’s European integration and cooperation, and has also publicly advocated for the European Council to confirm the beginning of Ukraine's EU membership talks.
