Russians hit Kharkiv with Iskander missiles, detonating one in mid-air to cause more damage – photos, video

Russian forces have struck the city of Kharkiv with three Iskander high-explosive missiles. At least one missile exploded in mid-air to cause as much damage as possible in the city.

Details: The investigators reported that the Russians launched the attack around 05:10. Kharkiv’s Osnovianskyi district came under attack.

"The strikes were recorded in a residential area among apartment blocks. Another missile hit premises belonging to a business, causing a fire," the prosecutor's office said.

A 79-year-old man who was in his apartment at the time of the attack was killed.

The children affected include four girls aged 3, 4, 14 and 16, and a 17-year-old boy.

The Prosecutor's Office has launched a pre-trial investigation into the commission of a war crime that resulted in the death of a person (Article 438.2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Background: On the morning of 18 April, the Russians fired a ballistic missile carrying cluster munitions against Kharkiv. One person was killed and more than 60 injured.
