Russian ballistic missile hits Kharkiv: one person killed, over 100 injured – photos, video

A Russian ballistic missile carrying cluster munitions struck a high-rise building in the city of Kharkiv on the morning of 18 April. As of 16:00, 1 person is known to have been killed and 103 injured, 8 of whom are children.

Quote from Terekhov: "An enemy missile hit a densely populated area of Kharkiv. A high-rise building was struck. People may be trapped under the rubble."

Details: Syniehubov reported that early reports indicated the missile strike hit apartment buildings in the Osnovianskyi district. 

Update: Later, the Prosecutor’s Office reported that the Russians had hit Kharkiv with three Iskander high-explosive missiles. At least one missile exploded in mid-air in order to cause as much damage as possible in the city.

Details: Early reports from Terekhov indicate that 15 apartment buildings were affected.

Syniehubov confirmed that among the casualties were a four-year-old child and a child under three years old. 

Thirteen people were hospitalised, including two children. Four people are in a critical condition.

Update: In the morning, Terekhov added that the number of casualties had reached 79. 

The State Emergency Service reported that by 11:00 the number of casualties had increased to 82, including six children.

Later, Syniehubov reported that 87 people had been injured in the missile attack. Seventeen people have been hospitalised in city hospitals. Among them are two girls (aged four and  14) and a one-year-old boy.

Update: In the afternoon, Terekhov reported that 98 people were wounded in the attack.

As of 16:00, the number of people injured in the Russian attack increased to 103, including 8 children.

Background: Explosions were heard in Sumy, Kharkiv and Dnipro on the morning of 18 April.
