Details: Respondents were asked whether NATO countries should down Russian fighters that violate their airspace.
A total of 67% answered "yes", while only 8.7% said "no". A further 24.2% of respondents said they were unsure or had no opinion.
Men expressed stronger support for such action than women – 73.4% compared to 61.3%.
Support also rises with age. In the under-24 age group, 54.7% backed the decision, while 70.3% of respondents over 50 supported it.
The poll was conducted by SW Research on 23 and 24 September 2025 using an online interview method on the internet SW Panel.
Background:
- Bloomberg reported earlier that European diplomats had warned Russia they were ready to take decisive action in response to further violations, adding that the incident against Estonia had been deliberate.
- NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said he supports US President Donald Trump’s position on the need to shoot down Russian aircraft violating the Alliance’s airspace.
