Hungarians don't want to be in EU with Ukrainians as they are fated to border Russia – Orbán

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has once again claimed that Hungarians do not want to be in the same union as Ukrainians, arguing that Ukrainians are fated to live alongside Russia.
Source: Orbán in a broadcast on Kossuth Radio, a Hungarian public broadcasting radio station, as reported by European Pravda
Details: Orbán asserted that Hungarians do not want to be in the European Union with Ukrainians and that he strongly agrees with that position.
Quote: "If you are in a federal system with someone, you share their fate, and Ukraine is a country with a very difficult fate. Why should we share it?"
More details: Orbán added that the Hungarians have their own fate, which is a much easier one than the Ukrainians'.
Quote: "We feel sorry for them, we sympathise with them, they are fighting heroically, we should support them, but we do not want to share their fate."
Further details: According to Orbán, Ukraine's fate is to live next to Russia and be constantly at war with the Russians.
He said he wants to spare Hungary the obligation of being in the same federal system as Ukraine and fighting against the Russians.
Quote: "If you are in a federal system with someone and you are attacked, sooner or later troops have to be sent in, and we do not want to die for Ukraine."
Background:
- It was reported earlier that Hungary does not support the idea of granting Ukraine a reparations loan using funds generated by frozen Russian assets.
- Bloomberg has reported that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz lashed out at Orbán during an informal EU leaders' summit in Denmark for obstructing important discussions.
