Ukrainian air defence downs 420 aerial assets; direct hits from 13 missiles and 60 strike drones recorded

Russia launched a combined strike on Ukraine on the night of 9-10 October, using 32 missiles and 465 drones of various types. Air defence systems intercepted 420 aerial assets. There were confirmed strikes in 19 locations, and the Russian attack is still ongoing.

Details: From 19:00 on 9 October, the Russians deployed:

  • a total of 465 strike drones of the Shahed and Gerbera types, as well as other drones, that were launched from the Russian cities of Kursk, Millerovo, Shatalovo, Oryol, Shakhty and Primorsko-Akhtarsk (according to the Air Force, around 200 were Shahed attack drones);
  • Two Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles that were launched from the airspace of Russia's Lipetsk Oblast;
  • Fourteen Iskander-M ballistic missiles that were launched from temporarily occupied Crimea and from Russia's Rostov and Bryansk oblasts;
  • Twelve Iskander-K cruise missiles that were launched from temporarily occupied Crimea and from Russia's Rostov and Bryansk oblasts;
  • Four Kh-59/69 guided air-launched missiles.

Early reports indicate that as of 10:00, air defence systems had shot down or suppressed 420 aerial assets:

  • a total of 405 Shahed and other drones;
  • one Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missile;
  • four Iskander-M ballistic missiles;
  • nine Iskander-K cruise missiles;
  • one Kh-59/69 guided air-launched missile.

Additionally, four Russian missiles failed to reach their targets (they disappeared from radar; the locations where they fell are being confirmed).

There were direct hits from 13 missiles and 60 strike drones in 19 locations, and debris from intercepted targets fell in 7 locations.
