Quote from Sikorski: "Poland is already discussing how to support Ukraine, including in this regard. Generators, additional electricity supplies, accelerated construction of power lines between Ukraine and Poland and, of course, our LNG terminal in Świnoujście – all this is at your service."

Details: Sikorski believes that the latest strikes on energy facilities in Ukraine are intended to "intimidate people before winter".

"Attacking civilian facilities is a war crime. Putin is already accused of kidnapping and Russifying Ukrainian children. I thought that would be enough for him, but here we are with more attacks. And this is something we really need to respond to by tightening sanctions against Russia and increasing aid to Ukraine," Sikorski added.

Background:

  • Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called on its allies to respond decisively to Russian strikes on critical civilian infrastructure on the night of 9-10 October.
  • EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarína Mathernová stated that by targeting energy facilities in Ukraine, Russia is committing war crimes that cannot be forgiven.
  • On Friday, G7 ambassadors held an emergency meeting with Ukraine's Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk and representatives of the energy sector to discuss assistance in response to Russian attacks on energy and civilian infrastructure.
