Defence Intelligence of Ukraine releases intercept of Colombian mercenaries in Russian forces ordering killings of women and children

Defence Intelligence of Ukraine of the Ukrainian Defence Ministry has released an intercepted audio recording in which Colombian mercenaries serving in the Russian forces are heard ordering the execution of civilians.

Details: The recording features a conversation between mercenaries from the 30th Separate Guards Motorised Rifle Brigade, part of the 2nd Guards Combined Arms Army of Russia's Central Military District.

In the intercepted exchange, one of the field commanders gives an order in Spanish to execute Ukrainian civilians.

Quote as translated by Defence Intelligence of Ukraine: "When fog or mist conceals their identities, they must eliminate all people who are enemies: on motorbikes, on bicycles, women and children, women and children."

Background:

• A 22-year-old Indian citizen fighting for Russia was captured by soldiers from Ukraine's 63rd Separate Mechanised Brigade on 7 October. The Indian man, who was studying in Russia and was sent to the front after being convicted on drug charges, said he did not want to fight and surrendered during his first assault.
• National Resistance Center of Special Operations Forces reported in October 2023 that the Russians are recruiting mercenaries from Cuba for the war against Ukraine en masse, further attracting foreigners to the eastern contact zone.
• In December 2024, soldiers from the 28th Mechanised Brigade captured an Egyptian citizen after repelling another Russian attack near the city of Toretsk.
• On 8 April 2025, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukrainian troops in Donetsk Oblast captured two Chinese nationals who were fighting in the ranks of the Russian forces. Zelenskyy instructed the Ukrainian foreign minister to contact Beijing immediately to determine how China intends to respond. The two citizens of the People's Republic of China were captured by soldiers of the 81st Separate Airmobile Slobozhanska Brigade of the Air Assault Forces and the 157th Separate Mechanised Brigade.
