Background:

  • On the evening of 30 October, Vilnius airport suspended operations due to the approach of balloons.
  • Lithuanian leaders said the intrusion of the balloons into Lithuanian airspace was a hybrid attack by Minsk.
  • As a result, Lithuania has closed its border with Belarus for a month to everyone except diplomats, Russians transiting to Kaliningrad Oblast, and EU citizens returning to Lithuania from a neighbouring country.
  • Lithuanian Airports (LTOU) and the state airport operator intend to take legal action with respect to the losses caused by the balloons.
