Energoatom, Ukraine's nuclear power company, convenes special commission to investigate large-scale corruption

Against the backdrop of a high-profile corruption scandal involving a kickback scheme supposedly organised by senior Ukrainian officials, Energoatom, a Ukrainian state-run nuclear company, has convened a special meeting to assess the situation and determine appropriate actions.

Details: The supervisory board stated that it is treating the recent corruption allegations involving company employees with the utmost seriousness.
The special meeting is intended to "thoroughly assess the situation and determine the necessary actions", including the launch of an independent review of operations and an audit of internal procedures and control systems.
"The supervisory board is committed to the principles of full transparency, accountability, and the highest standards of integrity within the organisation, as well as to cooperation with the authorities," the press service said.
Background:
- Earlier, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) revealed details of a scheme in which officials and individuals connected to them systematically received unlawful benefits from Energoatom's contractors.
- According to Ukrainska Pravda sources, detectives from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) conducted searches at the home of Tymur Mindich, a businessman and co-owner of Kvartal 95, the Ukrainian production company Volodymyr Zelenskyy founded before he became president, on the morning of 10 November.
- The sources reported that Mindich left Ukraine on 10 November – just a few hours before the NABU search took place.
- NABU confirmed that, together with the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO), it is conducting a large-scale operation to expose corruption in the energy sector.
- "Fifteen months of work and 1,000 hours of audio recordings. Activities of a high-level criminal organisation have been documented," NABU said.
- The investigators have uncovered an extensive corruption network influencing strategic state companies, including the state-owned nuclear energy company Energoatom.
- NABU and SAPO have also released part of the audio recordings from Operation Midas, their investigation into the large-scale corruption scheme in the energy sector.
