The Kremlin has said that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is ready "to engage in dialogue" with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Background:

  • On 19 December, Macron said that Europe must find a way to engage directly with Putin.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during an online briefing with journalists on Saturday that he considers it important to maintain US participation in the "peace talks", commenting on Macron's proposal to resume engagement with Russia.
