Kremlin says Kyiv and European proposals do not improve chances of peace

Yuri Ushakov, an aide to Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, has claimed that amendments proposed by Europe and Ukraine to the US draft "peace plan" hinder the prospects of reaching a long-term peace.

Details: Ushakov said that the proposals "put forward or being put forward by Europeans together with Ukrainians definitely do not improve the document and do not improve the possibility of achieving a long-term peace".
He also responded negatively when asked whether he had any information about the progress of meetings between Putin's envoy Kirill Dmitriev and US representatives in Miami.
Ushakov added that no one has yet seriously discussed the idea of a trilateral meeting between Russia, the United States and Ukraine, noting that Dmitriev is holding talks in Miami only with the American side.
Background:
- On 20 December, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the United States had proposed that "peace talks" be held with representatives of Ukraine and Russia and possibly European countries.
- On the evening of 19 December, Rustem Umierov, Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council, said that a meeting between the Ukrainian negotiating delegation and US and European partners had concluded.
- Dmitriev said that talks with the US side on Russia's war against Ukraine have been "constructive" and will continue on Saturday and Sunday.
