Details: On Friday, after a summit at which the EU agreed to provide a €90 billion loan to support Ukraine, Macron said Europe should find a way to engage directly with the Russian leader. The Kremlin later voiced support for this idea.

"We welcome the fact that the Kremlin has publicly given its consent to such an approach. In the coming days, we will communicate on the best way forward," the Élysée Palace said.

Meanwhile, it stressed that any discussions with Moscow would take place "in full transparency" with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European partners, and that the goal remains achieving a "strong and lasting peace" for Ukrainians.
