Kremlin says US and Russia discussed Putin envoy's trip to Miami

The Kremlin has said representatives of the US and Russian leadership held talks following Russian negotiator Kirill Dmitriev's trip to Miami.

Details: Kirill Dmitriev led a Russian delegation that met in Miami on 20-21 December with property magnate-turned-diplomat Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.

"On Putin's instructions, contact was made between representatives of the administrations of Russia and the US," said Peskov.
Background:
- Zelenskyy previously said that a meeting with Trump had been agreed for the near future.
- On 24 December, the president of Ukraine revealed for the first time the contents of a 20-point "peace plan" agreed with the US. He also emphasised that Ukraine is not accepting a demand to give up its aspirations for NATO membership that had been in the Trump team's initial 28-point plan.
- Signals have come from Moscow that Russia will demand significant changes to the draft "peace plan" agreed between Ukraine and the US.
