European countries have declared their readiness to send 10,000-15,000 troops to Ukraine during the first six months after the cessation of hostilities as part of security guarantees.

Details: According to information from diplomatic circles in Brussels, Europeans are prepared to take part in monitoring a possible ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
"Plans for what security guarantees for Ukraine could look like are ready. They were developed mainly by military experts from the UK and French armed forces in cooperation with Brussels," diplomatic representatives familiar with the course of the negotiations reported.
It is noted that France and the United Kingdom, if necessary, are ready to monitor compliance with a ceasefire using ground troops, the size of which is estimated at 10,000 to 15,000 personnel during the first six months after the end of hostilities.
In addition, diplomatic sources said that "France and the United Kingdom are ready to take part in monitoring the ceasefire even without a mandate from the United Nations (UN) or the European Union." An invitation from Ukraine would be sufficient for both countries.
Monitoring of the ceasefire from the air and at sea is to be ensured by the states neighbouring Ukraine.
Türkiye also plays a role in the development of ceasefire-monitoring plans, as it could monitor the Black Sea region.
Background:
- On 30 December, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that some of the documents for settling the war that were developed within the framework of the negotiation process would be ready for signing in January.
- Within the negotiation process, Ukraine insists that a monitoring mission led by partners should begin operating simultaneously with the ceasefire.
