Talks between Ukraine, US and Russia to continue on 1 February

Trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States and Russia in the United Arab Emirates are set to continue next Sunday 1 February.

Details: The meeting will follow the two-day round of talks held in Abu Dhabi on 23-24 January.

"Trilateral negotiations between [the] US, Russia and Ukraine will resume next Sunday (8 days from now) in Abu Dhabi," Ravid said, quoting a US official.

Background:

  • Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that all sides in the Abu Dhabi talks were focused on discussing the parameters for ending the war on 23-24 January.
  • He stressed the importance of US monitoring for the process and compliance with security conditions.
  • Zelenskyy also noted that if the sides are ready to move forward, the next meeting could potentially take place as early as next week.
  • Ahead of the UAE talks, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia insists on the withdrawal of Ukraine's forces from Donbas, claiming that this is an important condition for negotiations on ending the war.
