Kharkiv sets up 101 heating centres as Russian strikes target energy infrastructure

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov has said that 101 invincibility centres are being set up in the city due to Russian strikes on energy infrastructure. [Invincibility centres are heated premises stocked with food and power banks to assist residents facing hardships due to power cuts – ed.]

Quote: "The attack on Kharkiv has been going on for more than three hours. The strikes are being deliberately targeted at energy infrastructure. The goal is obvious: to cause maximum damage and leave the city without heating in severe freezing weather.
We already understand that we will have to make difficult decisions. One of them is forced, but the only possible one. In order to prevent the heating network from freezing, we need to drain the heating supply system from 820 buildings supplied by one of the largest combined heat and power plants."
Details: Terekhov noted that doing this in –20℃ is extremely difficult, but "our engineers see no other way".
The mayor added that in this situation all invincibility centres in the city – 101 in total – will operate around the clock.
Quote: "If necessary, we will quickly deploy additional heating points.
There may also be disruptions to the operation of urban electric transport. In order to keep the city running, we are launching additional bus routes."
