A man has been detained in the UAE on suspicion of carrying out the attempt on the life of Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev, First Deputy Head of Russia's Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU), the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) reports.

Details: According to the Russian security service, the detainee is Lyubomir Korba, a 65-year-old Russian citizen.

The FSB says he carried out the assassination attempt.

Law enforcement authorities in the UAE have extradited him to Russia.

The FSB added that, together with the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, they have "identified accomplices involved in the crime". One of them, 55-year-old Zinaida Serebrytska, reportedly left for Ukraine after the attempt.

The FSB stated that the search for the organisers of the crime is ongoing.

Background: Alexeyev, who was the target of an assassination attempt in Moscow on 6 February, was the senior Russian representative at talks in Mariupol in May 2022 during the withdrawal of the Mariupol Garrison from Azovstal.
