Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has claimed that Brussels and Kyiv have "declared war" on Hungary after Politico posted an article outlining plans for Ukraine's "accession in advance" to the EU, before completing all formal steps of the standard accession process, and for measures to overcome Hungary's veto.

Details: Orbán described Politico as the "Brusselian elite's official publication" and the ideas outlined in the article as the "latest war plan".

Quote: "This new plan is an open declaration of war against Hungary. They disregard the decision of the Hungarian people and are determined to remove the Hungarian government by any means necessary. They want the Tisza Party to come to power, because then there would be no more veto, no more resistance, and no more staying out of their conflict."

Details: Orbán added that Hungarians "must stop them at the ballot box" in April.

"Fidesz is the only force standing between Hungary and Brusselian rule, and the only guarantee of Hungarian sovereignty," he said.

The Politico article discusses an unprecedented idea: Ukraine's "accession in advance" to the EU in advance, with partial EU membership as early as 2027, but without relaxing requirements on fundamental principles.

It also outlines "plans A, B and C" within the EU for addressing Hungary's categorical refusal to support procedural decisions on Ukraine's further European integration; the primary plan assumes that Orbán would lose the April elections.

Meanwhile, opposition Tisza leader Péter Magyar said Orbán's team was preparing to blackmail him by making public intimate videos of him recorded via hidden camera, and insisted that he sees no "compromising material" in them.

Magyar's Tisza party led one January poll by 8 percentage points over Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's Fidesz party, and another by 10 points.
